This sandwich is so easy it’s almost not a recipe! You put some yummy ingredients between two slices of bread and once it’s all toasty and melty you have yourself a super tasty lunch or light dinner. The secret to making this sandwich so easy it to make sure you have a couple of the ingredients on hand in your freezer.

I have already shared with you a method for making caramelized onions in the slow cooker. It’s such an easy way to caramelize onions and then you can freeze them in small portions to use for all kinds of things….. like this sandwich.

It’s also great to cook up a bunch of bacon ahead of time and then freeze that. It heats up in minutes, even from frozen.

If you have those two ingredients already prepared, then this sandwich comes together literally in minutes. It’s no harder than making a grilled cheese, but so much more special!

Caramelized Onion and Pear Panini

  • 1/2 a pear, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp caramelized onions
  • 2 slices cooked bacon
  • 2 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 slices sourdough bread

Layer cheese, bacon, pears and onions on one slice of bread, topping with the second slice of bread.

Place sandwich on a preheated panini maker or in a preheated non-stick skillet.

Close panini maker, or if using a skillet, put another pan on top of sandwich to weigh it down. Cook for several minutes until bread is browned and toasty and cheese is melted.

Serve while hot!
