Creme Fraiche Herb Dressing Made with Homemade Creme Fraiche

Did you know that you can make your own creme fraiche at home? Did you know that it’s super easy, only takes 2 ingredients, and it tastes so creamy and good!
All you do is combine heavy cream and buttermilk and heat it slightly on the stove top. Next, you let it sit out on the counter overnight and work its magic. Finally, it goes into the refrigerator overnight.
The result is similar to sour cream, but it’s richer and creamier. You can use it the same way you use sour cream.
Creme fraiche is also great for making salad dressing. The recipe I’ve shared below takes just minutes to make and it’s so tasty! The dressing would also be great as a dip for vegetables.
Homemade Creme Fraiche
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 tbsp buttermilk
Remove from heat. Pour into a glass jar or bowl and partially cover.
Let sit at room temperature for 8 to 24 hours, until thickened.
Stir and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before using. Creme will further thicken in the refrigerator. The creme will keep for up to 2 weeks.
Use to top creme soups or baked potatoes, stir into mashed potatoes, top fresh berries OR make this yummy salad dressing:
Creme Fraiche Herb Dressing
- 1/4 cup creme fraiche
- about 1 tsp lemon
- 1/4 tsp granulated garlic
- 1 tsp minced fresh parsley
- 1 tsp mince fresh thyme
- pinch of cayenne pepper
- salt and pepper to taste
In a small bowl, whisk all ingredients together. If it’s too thick, add a splash of water to thin it out.
Top your favorite mixed greens.
ENJOY!
